Bordeaux maintained its leading position in trade by value last week, accounting for 44.1% of trade, slightly higher than the previous week’s 43.0%. This success was driven by the popularity of Château Latour 2015 and Château Lafite Rothschild 2016, which were among the top traded wines this week.
Champagne had a strong week, representing 16.2% of trade by value, up from the previous week’s 11.0%. Three of the top traded wines of the week were from this region, indicating a surge in demand.
Burgundy experienced a marginal increase to 22.7% compared to 21.7% previously. Trade was primarily fueled by DRC, Romanee-Conti Grand Cru 2014, Domaine Leroy, Chambertin Grand Cru 2011, and Domaine Dujac, Clos Saint-Denis Grand Cru 2017.
Piedmont also saw a small uptick in trade, accounting for 3.9% compared to 3.3% the previous week. Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio, Barolo, Monprivato 2018, and Giacomo Conterno, Barolo, Monfortino Riserva 1996 were the most actively traded wines from this region.
All other regions, including the Rhône, Tuscany, the USA, and the ‘Others’ category, experienced a decline in their share of trade. Tuscany saw the most significant decrease, dropping to 5.7% last week compared to 10.0% the previous week.
The top-traded wines this week featured notable performances from Champagne, with three of the most active wines being from this region. These included the 2013 vintages of Salon, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru, and Rare. Additionally, the 2015 vintage of Louis Roederer, Cristal, also made it to the top traded wines list. The attention garnered by Salon, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru, and Rare 2013, which were recently released to the market, contributed to their prominent positions.
Bordeaux took the top two spots, Latour 2015 and Lafite Rothschild 2016. The current market price of Lafite Rothschild 2016 is £7,000 per 12×75 case, and it last traded at £6,307 per case, representing an 9.96% discount to market value.
Having dropped in price by 16.42% in the last year, and now trading within 10% of far less superior vintages, is now the time to get in? Lafite Rothschild 2016 is currently available to purchase @ £3,458 per 6x75cl on BordeauXchange.
